PPC's 18-month residential training model in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand, which began in 2013, brought us in touch with potential radio staff, volunteers, and would-be listeners alike - moulding our vision for the local community radio station, and laying the groundwork for this collaborative endeavour with Uttarkhand-based CBO, Mandakini Ki Aawaz.
Ever since its launch in September 2014, CR Mandakini ki Aawaz 90.8 FM, or just Mandakini as it is now fondly referred to by listeners, has become a local fixture in and around the villages of remote and rural Rudraprayag. From giving local women an impetus to look beyond their homes via radio-presenting, to giving local musicians a platform to share their talent with over 300 villages, via the simple medium of the radio, CR MKA90.8FM has already begun to change the storyline of many lives.

{"The words would swirl in my mind, over and over again - was it even possible for us to set up a community radio station? [...] I am the sole breadwinner in my family; often I'd think: maybe I should forget about serving the community, and just focus on my family.
I was a very troubled man. But, one day, I met someone who gave me the confidence I needed, to continue with both. I told him about my plans to start a community radio station; he laughed at me, and said: 'Don't you know that only people from upper-class families work in such radio stations?'
That's when I made up mind: I would set up a community radio station, no matter how difficult the journey."}
